Stuart Adam FCA

Stuart Adam FCA


Stuart decided that during his A Levels he wanted to become a Chartered Accountant and went on to join one of the top ten accounting firms where he qualified in 1986. He joined Thomas Coombs in 1998 and became a partner in 1999. Stuart has a varied portfolio of clients, mainly owner-managed, family run businesses in the SME sector. Stuart uses nearly 30 years of experience to provide business advice (including attendance at board meetings), treasury management, financial controls and tax planning to support his clients.

He is a life-long Leeds United fan and also follows Formula 1 (as a spectator). Stuart’s ambitions are to follow the Formula1 season in each country live and to consistently hit a golf ball straight.

Christopher Darwin FCA

Christopher Darwin FCA


Christopher was a graduate recruit in 1992 and since then has progressed through the ranks of the firm, eventually becoming a partner in 2001. Building on his farming family business roots in South Yorkshire he now maintains a broad and growing client portfolio of family and owner managed businesses in West, North and South Yorkshire. In addition, Christopher heads our rapidly expanding specialist charities and social enterprise department which services charities, social enterprises and other not-for-profit organisations throughout Yorkshire.

In his spare time Christopher is a supporter of Barnsley F.C., as well as following the fortunes of McLaren in Formula 1. Following his marriage and new family life he has now become a master Lego builder, whilst continuing to remain close to the family farm in Penistone.

Bill Jenkinson FCA

Bill Jenkinson FCA


Bill qualified as a Chartered Accountant with one of the top four firms of accountants where he spent nine years before reaching the level of department manager. He then joined the practice in the 1980s. He deals with a large portfolio of personal and business clients covering a number of sectors including property, telecommunications, leisure, solicitors, architects and agriculture. He also deals with a number of family trusts.

Bill is a keen angler and tennis player. He played tennis in the Huddersfield league for over 25 years and also in the Wakefield District league for part of that time. He has also played regular cricket for Penguins Cricket Club since the 1970s.

Senior staff

Peter Sawrij ACCA – Senior Audit Manager

Peter joined an accounting firm after completing his A Levels and during his 12 years there he progressed through the ranks from junior to audit and accounts manager. During this time he worked to become an Accounting Technician and went on to qualify as a Certified Accountant. He has experience in all aspects of accounts and audit including performing internal audits for a FTSE listed company at their sites all over the world. Peter has worked with clients covering a wide range of sectors including engineering, property, manufacturing, retail and waste management.

During his spare time Peter enjoys spending time with his wife Lian and daughter Annie. He is also an avid sports fan with a keen interest in football, rugby, cricket and especially American football with his team of choice being the New England Patriots.

Greg Langley – Tax Manager

After leaving university Greg trained with HMRC as a tax inspector before starting his own tax consultancy business offering services to many accountancy practices across Yorkshire ranging from tax compliance work to more involved tax planning advice and tax investigations. After a few years  he joined a top 10 accountancy firm primarily to deal with more complex tax issues before heading their tax investigation department. After 4 years Greg again started a tax consultancy business similar to before but where he became involved with a local entrepreneur as his personal tax adviser for his UK companies and his involvement in a transatlantic joint venture.

More recently Greg has been tax and practice Manager for a local accountancy practice specialising in the hospitality industry for 6 years  before joining Thomas Coombs in 2016 as tax manager.

Greg spends his spare time with his wife Diane and, whenever possible, his grandson Zac. He enjoys watching cricket and rugby of both codes and has been a passionate Castleford Tigers supporter for many years.

Luke Pickering MAAT ATT – Trust Supervisor

Luke joined Thomas Coombs in July 2016 as Trust Senior.  He started working in accountancy at age 18 after completing A levels.  After 3 years of working on business accounts, Luke began specialising in Trust accounts and tax compliance and advisory.  Over time Luke developed this niche area whilst working several large firms in the Leeds area, each having specialist Trust departments, and has expanded into inheritance tax planning and compliance thus becoming more rounded in all aspects of the day-to-day administration of Trusts.

In his spare time Luke enjoys travelling and spending time with his wife Jonelle and their two French Bulldogs, Ralph and Louie.  Luke is also an avid rugby league fan, enjoying the sport as both player and spectator.

Louise Savage FCCA – Audit & Accounts Manager

Louise began her career with Thomas Coombs in 1998 as an Accounts Technician and qualified as a Certified Accountant in 2003. Louise specialises in accounts preparation and audits across a wide spectrum of enterprises with turnover levels ranging from £10,000 for the small entrepreneur to £20 million for larger organisations. Included within this spectrum of enterprises are a number of overseas companies. Louise was appointed Supervisor in 2004 and was promoted to the role of Audit and Accounts Manager in July 2006. Louise also has a key role ensuring that Thomas Coombs retains their high standard of technical compliance as set by the UK 200 Group at their annual compliance visits.

Louise continues to be a popular choice with our clients who rely upon her guidance and advice, thus enabling her to develop and maintain successful and enjoyable working relationships.

John Brooks – Audit & Accounts Supervisor

John joined Thomas Coombs straight from school and has worked for the firm for over 35 years. His experience is mainly in accounts preparation for small companies, partnerships and sole traders.

John likes to spend his spare time with his wife, Andrea, and his children, Richard and Sarah.

Lee Milligan FCCA – Audit & Accounts Supervisor

Lee has nearly 20 years accounting, general practice and auditing experience gained from working in practices across England; from London and the Midlands, to Manchester and now Yorkshire. This has helped him gain invaluable knowledge from exposure to a wide variety of clients of varying sizes and complexity.

His spare time is spent on the golf course, memorising trivia for pub quizzes and ensuring his wife has enough dresses.
